Sacred or holy places can often foster a sense of connection to the divine, inner peace, and/or personal reflection. Visiting these spaces may offer healing, guidance, or a sense of belonging to the broader community.
Sacred spaces on the Dartmouth College campus include:
- Hindu Temple. Located inside of Rollins Chapel, this temple is for students and community members interested in practicing, learning about, and representing the Hindu faith; daily Puja held here (times vary)
- Muslim Prayer Room. Located on the first floor of North Fairbanks Hall, this space is used for congregational prayers (such as Friday Jum’ah, and ‘Ishaa and Fajr prayers), daily individual prayer, and to spend time reading.
- Rollins Chapel. All are welcome to come to this quiet venue for individual and group devotional use, open daily from 6am-10pm. Meditate, walk the labyrinth, reflect, or play the Tucker piano.
- Roth Center for Jewish Life. This center provides students with a quiet, relaxing place to study, hang out, and attend programming, including a vibrant Shabbat dinner served on Fridays from a kosher kitchen.
- Tucker Meditation Room. Located on the second floor of North Fairbanks Hall, this space is used by various meditation and mindfulness groups on campus, including the Tucker Center’s Zen Buddhist Practice Group.
Prayer rugs and/or other spiritual resources are available for use in the following campus spaces:
- Geisel Multifaith Prayer and Meditation Room (Remsen 224) – This space has a shoe rack, rug storage, and a mini library with texts from various faiths. Available on a walk-in basis.
- Student Wellness Center (Berry 179). The Tranquility Room has prayer rugs and may be reserved at the Student Wellness Center in 15 minute increments
