Dear members of the Dartmouth community,
Here at Dartmouth, we are committed to creating an intellectual and learning environment where everyone can thrive. Members of our community come from different backgrounds across the globe, have different lived experiences, and different political views and ideologies. To help everyone to flourish inside and outside the classroom, we want to remind you of the comprehensive network of support available to all. This is particularly important during this busy time of year with midterms on the horizon for undergraduates, work piling up for the rest of us, and a great deal of change for us to process nationally and internationally.
Below this message are some of the many resources Dartmouth provides you. We encourage you to seek clarity from your dean or supervisor on any questions you have concerning Dartmouth’s support network or any university policy. If they do not know the answers, they will find someone who does. And as always, we recommend:
- Students, reach out to your student affairs or advising dean and student support services for help navigating all that is available to you.
- Faculty, your department chairs and deans can point you to guidance and support.
- Staff, start with your supervisor or HR representative.
Over the last several weeks, President Beilock and Provost Kotz have written to faculty underscoring our commitment to our educational and research mission. Senior Vice President Shontay Delalue outlined support for international students in a message to all students, our Office of Sponsored Projects is communicating with researchers regarding orders pertaining to federal grants, and the Office of Visa and Immigration Services is updating its website to include information on the latest executive order or administrative actions.
In addition, Seun Olamosu, our new director of International Student Experience, has been meeting with groups of students to ensure they know the resources available to them. Susan Ellison, director of OVIS, and Keysi Montás, director of the Department of Safety and Security, have begun to meet with small groups of administrative staff and faculty. The goal is for people to know our campus protocols in the event representatives from law enforcement arrive in their offices. If you are interested in requesting a small group meeting, you can email OVIS (ovis@Dartmouth.edu) or DOSS (safety.and.security@dartmouth.edu).
Of course, in addition to helpful campus programs and resources, what really defines and shapes Dartmouth is our people and our range of perspectives and experiences. So, if you’re struggling or just need a little pick-me-up, lean on one another. The Dartmouth community is our superpower, so let’s use it. We are always looking to create opportunities to come together to support one another, and we will let you know as plans develop. We are all in this together and can accomplish the most when we work as one.
With our best wishes,
Jennifer Rosales
